As of September 2018, my scanner is at least 15-20 years old, but is kept very clean and has no degraded moving parts nor a busted bulb. I noticed that the only difference between Simple-Scan, the other utility i was using (VueScan), and Canon's own proprietary software was that VueScan and Canon's software both trigger a calibration routine that ensures that my scanner is scanning colors as correctly as possible. However, in both Ubuntu and Linux Mint (which relies on Ubuntu's repository/repositories, if I'm not mistaken), when I use Simple-Scan to scan photos, the resulting scans have very poor color accuracy. I own an old Canon N670U scanner which I use in Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Windows 10 (using VueScan a utility that was NOT free nor open source). ![]() I would like to add myself to the list of people that are affected by this.
